What Does the Covington Library Have for You?
Your Covington Library branch of King County Library offers you access to an amazing array of services and materials for all ages, some traditional, some high tech, and all totally free for you to use.

Programs and Classes
DATABASES: We have databases for researching everything from repair diagrams for your car to test preparation for the GRE. You can research your family tree on Ancestry.com, discover the best dishwasher in Consumer Reports or even learn a new language on byki or Mango languages. You can have your resume proofread, find the latest articles on your favorite topic and check on your investments with Morning Star or Value Line online databases.
COMPUTERS: Need a computer to browse the internet? We have them with printing capability, too. Laptops are also available for in-library use. And if you have your own laptop, the library has free wifi. KCLS also offers downloadable eBooks and eAudio to transfer to your personal MP3 player or iPod.
COMPUTER CLASSES: Are you new to computer use? The library offers free Computer Classes for beginners: Excel, Word, Basic Internet, email to name a few.
MEETING PLACE: Do you have a group needing a place to meet? Covington Library has a large public meeting room reservable online and several small group study rooms you can request onsite. And if you are looking for a quiet place to read or study, there is a Quiet Study Room in the Covington Library, too.
ESL, CITIZENSHIP, TALK TIME CLASSES: If you’re new to the United States, the library offers free ESL classes taught by Green River Community College as well as free Citizenship Classes and Talk Time sessions to practice English conversation. We also have collections of ESL materials and collections of books, magazines and films in several languages on site, as well as access to many other language collections at other branches in KCLS.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Want to broaden your cultural experience? The library regularly schedules special events for all ages. Covington Library has hosted author visits by J A Jance, Nancy Horan, Helen Thayer and Jane Ann Krentz to mention a few. Musical performances for all ages range from Show Brazil, Tingstad and Rumbel to Casper Babypants and Captain Bogg and Salty. We also offer a variety of programs for adults including topics like poultry keeping and job searching. STARS programs for continuing education of adult daycare providers are also a regular offering at the library.
CHILDREN’S STORY TIMES AND PROGRAMS: For Children, there are story times for babies, toddlers and families and many other events for school-aged children as well. The Summer Reading Program and Ready Set Read encourage reading skill development for this age group by offering fun programs and prizes for participants.
TEEN PROGRAMS: Teens are well represented at Covington Library as well with a large collection of teen-oriented materials including classics, graphic novels and anime. Programming for teens includes Game On, Anime Club and Read-3-Get-1-Free, a KCLS Foundation-sponsored program where teens write short reviews of three titles they’ve read and get to choose a brand new teen paperback of their own. Teen Late Nights occur several times per year when teens have the whole library to themselves for an evening to play games, watch movies and chillĀ.
HOMEWORK HELP: The library also provides help for students K-12 by having Study Zone volunteer tutors to assist with homework several nights per week during the school year. Afterhours and remote help with studies are provided through the library’s free link to Tutor.com, too.
SENDING BOOKS AND MATERIALS YOUR WAY: Because Covington is a branch of KCLS, we offer access to over 4 million items from 46 locations system wide with holds delivered to your home library. Holds can be placed from any computer or in the library.
FRIENDS OF THE COVINGTON LIBRARY: Interested in helping fund extra programs and activities at the Covington Library? Consider joining the Friends of Covington Library. The Friends of the Covington Library is an independent (501c3) corporation which works for the benefit, improvement, and welfare of the Covington Library by raising funds to enhance and augment the purpose, programs, services and facilities of the library. And they have great Book Sales twice a year.
